What Should a Small Business Website Cost? by Jason Murphy
When it comes to website design small business owners have a plethora of options. Solutions range from do-it-yourself tools like Wix, SiteCube and Microsoft Live; there are many more options, these are just a few. The truth is that most of these options are just fine when you’re getting started. Having even a basic online presence is better than none. However, the downside to using tools like these is that they are usually poor performers when it comes to Search Engine Optimization or integrating Social Media. And when it comes to the design templates that these services use, they’re usually fixed and difficult to modify and make your own. In terms of pricing, they appear to be affordable on the surface. Typically charging a start-up fee around $100-$200 and a monthly fee of anywhere between $19-$99, in perpetuity. In the short-term, this might seem like a smart decision but when you do the math, you’ll paying more in the long-term.
So What’s Consider Fair Pricing For a Website?
Depends on the size of the website. But most small businesses only need 10-20 pages of content to aptly describe their business and present their products or services. If you need more pages, I’d recommend adding a blog to any website, providing a simple way to add new content on the fly. For a 10-20 page website most reasonable web design firms will charge between $1,000-$5,000 for completely designed site. This usually includes basic on-site SEO components, including proper Title, Meta and Keyword entries as well integration with an analytics package, like Google Analytics that can help you record the activity on your website. Standard pages usually include an About, Products, Services, Locations, Testimonial, Privacy Policy and Contact Page as a best practice. Sitemaps are also a part of most websites as they provide a means for search engines to find your content easily when they “crawl” your website. Need a little less? We’ve seen prices for simple website designs go as low as $500. While those basic websites won’t set the world on fire they are a good start.
And a Good Start is All You Need
Small Business owners just need to get started. Recent statistics show that a small percentage even have a website. In fact, it’s been reported that only around 50% have an online presence at all. This is definitely hurting your chances of getting local leads. Having a website will make it possible to add a local business listing to search engine directories like Google Places and Bing’s Local Business Directory. These are seriously must haves to appear on page 1 and in the maps section of search results which is where most people click. So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and find yourself a quality and affordable website design firm to help you and start growing your business!
